But in my opinion, it would be completely misjudged to see them as the key ingredient for popularity or desire for an operating system.
After all the economical and competitional factors that made Windows big, the success for Mac's is design. But we should understand design as being much more than eye candy. It is about intuitiveness and usability, it is how "things" work and if they look how they work.
Transitions on my mac are actually switched off (apart from cover flow). The reason why I so much prefer the mac, is because images in "pages" don't get flipped around as in "word", because iTunes is self-explanatory and you can't find your songs in media player.
Cheers from the UK
MarioAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-30730828.post-38622769669759400352007-04-30T11:46:00.000+12:002007-04-30T11:46:00.000+12:00Not really, as I've mentioned most of these plug-i...Not really, as I've mentioned most of these plug-ins are applied in my Windows 2000 machine, which is not a top of the line model, and it hasn't slowed down my machine. I can't afford to have that happen as it's my work environment. My home machine, which has Vista Ultimate, did require a Graphics Cards upgrade (more on that later) and I haven't found a need to implement plug-ins on that yet. As for Apple G4, it is a closed proprietary environment, anybody can control their own system. A real software challenge is to create an open framework which tweaked and enhanced by any developer (See apple user). Beyond Windows and Apples - Linux derivatives are the ones to watch out for - Linux can be made to work on almost any scale of machine with better performance. Note that more that PCs, Windows interfaces are also dominating cellphone OS.Aditya Prateek Anandhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09207617380246858002noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-30730828.post-89506583039644062382007-04-30T06:25:00.000+12:002007-04-30T06:25:00.000+12:00having all these programs like stardock, addons an...having all these programs like stardock, addons and plugins is a waste of time because they waste a lot of system resources and cause a lot of conflict witht the program and OS, Damn windows for using DLL. Now if it is already designed into the OS then its great because the programs and any transistions of GUI is smooth without hogging too much system resource. I ask why does Vista need a hi spec machine to pull of GUI tricks when my G4 766 Mhz can pull the same and better tricks on OS X on a DX7 card. Even you had to uprade your video card to get some tricks ed.montyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12739529769132127424noreply@blogger.com
